I am excited to offer this superb hand-carved mother of pearl plaque in a silver setting, showing a scene of four Chinamen by a Chinese house and garden. The catch and long pin are in perfect working order. Measurements: 37 x 30mm. Weighs 15.2 g.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, there are no chips or flaws to the mother of pearl plaque. This very hard material is difficult to carve, often flakes or chips easily and so represents a lovely artisan's work of art. The cut steel border is entirely intact with a full backplate, however is unmarked.

The quality of the shell gives it a 3D effect. The brooch is English manufacture (no markings - C1800) Victorian (1837-1901) and the Chinamen have rather Anglo Chinese faces. Presumably, with the tea trade, there was an interest in Chinese life. A great deal of detail in this one.

It is in very good vintage condition with normal wear commensurate with age. Please examine the photos for condition prior to purchase as these are an important part of the description and condition report.
