Custom Jewellery Commissions: Bringing Your Ideas to Life in Sterling Silver
One of the most rewarding parts of being a silversmith is helping people bring their ideas to life through custom jewellery. Whether it begins with a treasured family heirloom, a special gemstone, a meaningful keepsake, or simply an idea sketched on paper, every commission tells its own story.
Working from my studio in the Noosa Hinterland, I create handcrafted sterling silver jewellery designed to reflect the personality, memories, and vision of each client. No two commissions are ever the same, which is what makes the process so special.
How a Commission Begins
Many custom pieces start with a conversation. Sometimes a client already has a clear design in mind, while others simply know they want something unique and meaningful.
You may have:
• A gemstone you would like incorporated into a piece
• A family heirloom that needs a new life
• A spoon, fork, or piece of vintage silverware with sentimental value
• A memorial keepsake design
• An engagement, wedding, or anniversary idea
• A favourite crystal, fossil, or cabochon you would like transformed into jewellery
Together, we discuss ideas, materials, sizing, design options, and budget before work begins.
Handmade with Care
Every commission is handcrafted using traditional silversmithing techniques. Depending on the design, this may include stone setting, fabrication, lapidary work, sand casting, texturing, oxidising, or upcycling vintage silverware.
Throughout the process, I provide progress photographs and updates so you can follow your piece from concept to completion. Watching a design come to life is often one of the most exciting parts of the commission journey.
Meaningful Jewellery with a Story
Some of my favourite commissions have included wedding bands, custom gemstone rings, memorial jewellery, and pieces created from sentimental silverware supplied by clients. These designs become more than jewellery. They become personal stories, memories, and milestones that can be worn and treasured for years to come.
Because each commission is individually handcrafted, every finished piece is unique.
Commission Process
A 60% deposit is required to secure your commission and cover materials, design work, and the time involved in creating your piece.
As each piece is custom-made specifically for the client, deposits are non-refundable once materials have been purchased or work has commenced.
The remaining balance is payable upon completion before collection or shipping.
Commission timeframes vary depending on the complexity of the design, material availability, and current workload. Estimated completion times will be discussed before work begins.
