Andamooka Opal Pendant in Vintage Colombian Silver

An old silver spoon, a colourful Australian opal and a new chapter.

I handcrafted this one of a kind pendant using a vintage 900 silver spoon purchased from a Colombian estate sale. Its original decorative details frame a beautiful 5.10ct Andamooka matrix opal, secured in a handmade 925 sterling silver bezel and finished with a 925 sterling silver bail.

Flashes of green, aqua, blue and violet shift with the light, bringing this little piece of history to life.

The opal was purchased from Tony Tramaglino of Opalicious International Opal & Gem Dealer at the Lightning Ridge Opal Festival.

About the treatment

This natural Andamooka matrix opal from South Australia has been enhanced using the traditional sugar and acid carbonisation process. The treatment deposits dark carbon within the porous host rock, darkening the background so the opal’s natural play of colour stands out. The colour flashes are natural; the background has been treated.

Handmade in my Pomona studio and supplied with a 50cm 925 sterling silver snake chain.
