Vintage Silverware Jewellery: Handcrafted from Antique Spoons, Forks & Flatware
There is something special about holding a piece of history in your hands.
Long before a vintage spoon, fork, butter knife, or serving piece finds its way into my studio, it has already lived a life of its own. It may have been part of a family dining table, a wedding gift, a treasured heirloom, or a special occasion shared between generations.
Rather than allowing these beautiful pieces to sit forgotten in drawers or antique stores, I give them a new purpose through handcrafted jewellery.
From Vintage Flatware to Wearable Art
Every piece begins with genuine vintage silverware carefully sourced from estate collections, antique dealers, auctions, and collectors. I am drawn not only to the beauty of the patterns and craftsmanship but also to the stories hidden within each piece.
Before I begin transforming a piece of silverware, I research the maker's marks, hallmarks, and patterns whenever possible. Many pieces come from renowned silversmiths and manufacturers whose work has been admired for generations.
Over the years, I have worked with silverware from makers including Towle, Reed and Barton, Tiffany & Co, WM Rogers, Grosvenor, Camusso, International Silver and many others. Each carries its own history and character.
The Transformation Process
Turning vintage flatware into jewellery requires careful planning and craftsmanship.
Some pieces naturally lend themselves to rings, while others become cuffs, pendants, bracelets, earrings, or statement pieces. Every design is created to work with the original pattern and shape of the silverware rather than against it.
Many pieces are carefully shaped, formed, soldered, polished, and finished by hand in my Noosa Hinterland studio. I often incorporate gemstones, crystals, and Australian opals to complement the character of the vintage silver.
The goal is always to honour the original piece while creating something entirely new.
Gemstones and Silverware
One of my favourite aspects of working with vintage silverware is pairing it with natural gemstones.
Over the years I have combined antique silverware with stones such as:
• Australian Boulder Opal
• Labradorite
• Chrysocolla
• Turquoise
• Citrine
• Garnet
• Larimar
• Moonstone
• Amethyst
Each gemstone brings its own colour, personality, and symbolism to the finished design.
The contrast between historic silver and natural stone creates jewellery that feels both timeless and contemporary.
Sustainable Jewellery with Meaning
Upcycling vintage silverware is also a wonderful way to create jewellery sustainably.
Rather than using newly manufactured materials, existing silver pieces are given a second life. Every spoon, fork, butter knife, or serving piece that becomes jewellery is preserved and appreciated in a completely new way.
For many customers, this sustainability is just as important as the beauty of the finished piece.
No Two Pieces Are Ever The Same
One of the greatest joys of creating silverware jewellery is knowing that every piece is unique.
The patterns, age, maker, condition, and gemstones all contribute to a design that cannot be exactly replicated.
When you wear a piece of vintage silverware jewellery, you are wearing a small piece of history that has been thoughtfully transformed into wearable art.
Handmade in the Noosa Hinterland
Every piece in my Upcycled Silverware Jewellery Collection is handcrafted in my studio in the Noosa Hinterland on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
What began as a fascination with beautiful old objects has become a collection that celebrates craftsmanship, history, sustainability, and creativity.
Whether you are drawn to antique silver, natural gemstones, or jewellery with a story, I hope you find a piece that feels like it was meant for you.
