This distinctive silver pendant draws inspiration from the extraordinary auricular style pioneered by 17th-century Dutch silversmith Johannes Lutma.

Its fluid, almost surreal form reflects the sculptural cartouches that emerged in Amsterdam during the mid-1600s—an artistic movement known for its organic, mask-like shapes and imaginative, almost dreamlike compositions. The inscription “Schouburgh” references the historic Amsterdam theatre (Schouwburg), where similar designs were once used on admission tokens.

The reverse bears the inscription “Museum” along with an “835” silver mark, indicating 83.5% silver content. This example is a later artistic interpretation of those early designs, capturing the essence of Lutma’s influential style in wearable form.
